About Us

This world is extraordinary. Not in spite of its complexity, but because of it. Each cultural tradition carries its own logic, its own aesthetic grammar, its own way of organizing meaning and memory.

The systems built around access to culture have historically centered certain geographies and practices while overlooking others. That centering is not neutral. It is the product of constructed hierarchies. And hierarchies, over time, become indistinguishable from the perception of value.

Fatima Bocoum founded Culture Makes on the conviction that each cultural sphere is a living system — a set of behaviors, beliefs, and ways of being — that its members actively sustain and embody. Whole and abundant.

We operate through editorial and curatorial works: texts, selections, and encounters, that open ways of seeing and moving through the world. We bring together artistic practices, ideas, and contexts that might otherwise remain distant, allowing them to be experienced without hierarchy or prescription. So that in this genuine and curious mingling, new possibilities emerge. The world expands, and its edges soften. What follows is human and organic.
